About us

Tumi2You

Tumi2You is built on the belief that two women, one in Kumasi, one in Copenhagen, can want the same thing: to go further than the world tells them to. We are not a charity. We are not a development project. We are a brand built on genuine connection and collaboration between Ghana and the Netherlands. Founded locally, shared globally.

"The more my bags are being sold, the more famous I feel."

- Mavis

"I feel most proud when you carry the story, not only the bag."

- Kyra

Equal collaboration

Co-Creation

We exist to value women’s work as work, not charity. Through collaboration and co-creation across borders, we build a community where women can flourish.

Tumi2you values a brand built on co-creation.

Co-creation is a collaborative process in which all parties regardless of their role, have genuine, equal input into decisions, designs, and outcomes, rather than being consulted after the fact.

Today, we work closely with two talented Ghana-based designers, communicating through WhatsApp messages, photos, and calls. After every production, we take time to reflect together, exchanging feedback, while respecting our different cultures.

Their salary is handled locally by the NGO Tumi Ghana Women Empowerment Centre & Hostel. Our goal is to scale organically in order to sustain our strong intercultural connection and joy in our work.

Impact

Economic agency

Young Female Entrepreneurs

Female entrepreneurship is powerful because women building businesses, especially across borders, are not just creating economic value but actively redistributing it, forging relationships of reciprocity rather than extraction in spaces where those relationships have historically run the other way.

When women in the Netherlands and Ghana co-create together, they are rewriting a colonial trade relationship that has never worked in Ghana's favour, and demonstrating that another kind of exchange is possible.

Tumi2You aims to be an example of how the fashion industry can be better by equal partnerships and relations in female entrepreneurship.

Our values

Decolonial Feminism

Tumi2You & Feminism: Tumi2You is a feminist brand because it is built around the economic agency, creative authorship, and dignified livelihood of women, placing their labour, skill, and self-determination at the centre of every business decision rather than as a means to someone else's profit.

Tumi2You aims to be an example of how the fashion industry can be better by equal partnerships and relations in female entrepreneurship.

Why a Decolonial feminism? is a political and intellectual framework that insists gender oppression cannot be understood or resisted in isolation from colonialism, race, and capitalism. It rejects the universalisation of Western feminist frameworks that erase the experiences of women in the Global South/Global Majority World. It centres the knowledge, agency, and liberation of those most marginalised by intersecting colonial and patriarchal systems, on their own terms.

Our story

How this started

In 2022, I visited Ghana for my studies — a journey that changed everything. I spent my days at Tumi Ghana, a Dutch nonprofit who’s mission it is to support women, children, and young people toward a future of confidence, independence, and opportunity. I met Mavis and Felicia, trained seamstresses with serious skill and a clear vision for their futures.

Listening to their stories of resilience, womanhood, and the confidence they were building through their work touched me deeply. I knew I could help create a bridge: connecting their talent with people like you, who believe in socially responsible and meaningful items. Tumi2You wouldn’t be a charity project, but a collaboration between women who, together, are building new futures.

With open minds and a shared dream, we created Tumi2you, combining our ideas, designs and sewing skills.
